Nootropics aka Smart Drugs-: A keen analysis

How many times have you felt like depressive thoughts are creeping inside, and all you want is an escape from it and the subsequent fatigue? Then listen- there is a remedy. With the cautious use of substances known as Nootropics, you can regain your lost enthusiasm.

Let us check how.

Nootropics are substances that enhance cognitive functions effectively. The word takes its origin from two Greek words- Noo( mind) and Trope (turning). There are three types of nootropic substances, and they are:

1. Dietary Supplements

2. Prescribed Drugs

3. Synthetic compounds.

One of the omnipresent nootropics is Caffeine present in Coffee, which aid in the production of certain neurotransmitters such as Acetyl Choline, associated with short term memory and learning. Although used for conditions such as ADHD, these substances have found a niche in other population groups such as Students. It would seem helpful in the beginning, but studies have found that unrestricted use would cause blurry vision, Insomnia, High blood pressure, fast heart rate, circulatory problems, and significant addiction.

Some of the best-known Nootropics are-:

1. L- Theanine-:

It is a naturally found Amino acid found in Tea. Using it would create a soothing effect without causing drowsiness. Use of it would increase the alpha waves inside the brain, thus paving the way for spontaneous creativity. If used in tandem with Caffeine, the effect would be much better.

2. Creatine

Creatine is an Amino acid which can considerably improve short term memory and reasoning skills. Creatine is more effective as a bodybuilding supplement. It is said to be more effective in people who are vegetarians and stressed out.

3. Bacopa Monnieri

Bacopa Monnieri is an Indian herb, helping in the improvement of memory and the processing of information.

4. Rhodiola Rosea

Rhodiola Rosea is a natural herb that will help in adopting one’s body in high periods of stress and subsequent fatigue.

5. Panax Ginseng

Panax Ginseng is an ancient herb that has proved helpful in reducing mental health problems. Panax Ginseng is a mysterious shrub because we know little about its other effects.

6. Gingko Biloba

Gingko Biloba is another herb, which has proven when used that it can cause improvements in memory and mental processing. Like Panax, more research is needed in its case as well.

7. Nicotine

Nicotine is a naturally occurring Nootropic that creates improved alertness and attention, especially in people with lower attention spans. Still, it is a toxic substance that causes significant addition.

8. Phenotropil

Phenotropil is a synthetic drug that is widely prescribed and is known for its effect on memory enhancement.

9. Modafinil

Modafinil is a prescription drug that is commonly used to treat drowsiness and is alternatively known as Provigil. Studies have found that Modafinil reduces fatigue and improves memory in people with Insomnia.

10. Amphetamines

Amphetamines are commonly used drugs for treating conditions like Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and also in healthy adults for improving brain functions.

So we can conclude that when used wisely, Nootropics can aid in the physical and mental well- being of an individual.
